Under the direction of Erik Boquiren, we are a Tahitian and Polynesian Dance & Culture Group based in the 707 CA area code and headquartered in Benicia, CA. Established in 2010, To'erau Manu Rahi has been serving the community for several years.
It is our goal to educate, practice, and demonstrate the Polynesian culture through dance, music, and story.
We take pride in being able to create a home for others to learn, express, grow, and find a family.
To’erau - strength of the northwinds.
Manu - Bird.
Rahi - Great, Big, Growing, or Rising
To’erau is the strength of the northwinds. Manu, or bird, are very lucky in Tahiti because of their strength and ability to fly over us, watch over us, and being close to gods and heaven. Rahi can be referred to the Manu as a big, growing, or rising group. As you combine the words together, it becomes To’erau Manu Rahi, Rising Birds of the Northwind.
The triangular arrowheads represent strength.
Bottom half of the inner left wing signifies tradition and roots. As it moves up it transforms into a curvy/wave design that represents new life.
The third pattern, the left half are the heavens/skies, and the right half represents ancestors or “nuna’a maohi” the beloved people.
Lastly, the weaving pattern shows how we are intertwined having strength together as a family.
